What should a customer be able to do with the product?

Questions like this are the bread and butter of our ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜ถ๐˜ค๐˜ต ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ด ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ด๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฌ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ด at CADIS as stated by two of them, namely Claudia Gรถsken and Kim Jonas Seufert.

A product owner has a crucial role in determining how value is created within the product. Itยดs more than just writing user stories and simply prioritizing them. Itยดs about defining, refining, and negotiating how to provide user value with those stories together with their team to find proper and sustainable solutions for the product and our clients.

 

This is done by

  • identifying the key stakeholders,
  • understanding the business domain and the requirements, and their value for the users,
  • clarifying them, and
  • prioritizing necessary steps for an incremental approach.

This involves assigning and/or naming the persona, and describing the goal of what the persona wants to achieve with the corresponding action/measure. This includes clarifying the reasons why we are integrating a feature. The product owner and the team are trying to understand how to maximize value for the user and understand why the user wants that.

Since client and end user are usually not identical, the product owner needs to advocate for both sides. The logistics industry is not as innovative as it could be. Technical, innovative visions have to also consider the benefit of the end user for the sake of the best user experience. Stakeholders often don’t want to see these visions.

Our product development process is using SCRUM with an incremental approach for complex solutions. We discuss step-by-step measures with the client. Accordingly, we involve our clients at an early stage. And also, the product can be developed or adapted in an agile manner.
